Carey R. Barber M.D. Scholarship Application for Depression Awareness and Suicide Prevention 2024
The Department of Community Health and Family Medicine proudly announces the opening of the Carey R. Barber, M.D. Scholarship for Depression Awareness and Suicide Prevention application. Every year one rising second-year medical student at the University of Florida is chosen to receive the award in hopes that they will continue their efforts to end the stigma surrounding physician depression. The UF Fund will be awarding a $2,500 scholarship for a talented and deserving student interested in mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
The Scholarship Selection Committee will accept completed applications for scholarship from of April 1, 2024 through 5:00 p.m. June 30, 2024. Only applications received by June 30, 2024 will be considered. Applicants will receive a confirmation email when their application is processed. If you do not receive a confirmation email, you are strongly encouraged to call (352) 273-5159 prior to the deadline to verify the committee’s receipt of application. The decision of the Scholarship Selection Committee is final and recipients will be notified of their selection no later than August 15, 2024. The committee will present the scholarship during the annual Honors Convocation in September 2024. VESP
The Visiting Elective Scholarship Program (VESP) established in 2010 is supported by the UCSF School of Medicine and was established to encourage fourth year medical students who are underrepresented in medicine (UIM) or are interested in working with underserved populations to apply for a clinical elective in Pediatrics or other specialties at UCSF. The program provides financial assistance to awardees. The deadline is September 1st, 2018.
The scholarship program provides up to $2,000 and is designed to:
Ø Expose fourth year medical students who are underrepresented in medicine or interested in working with underserved populations to an academic training program in Pediatrics
Ø Promote student interest in applying to a Pediatric academic residency training program
Ø Provide faculty and housestaff mentorship during the clinical elective experience

The National Hispanic Health Foundation (NHHF), affiliated with the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, New York University, will award scholarships ($2,000-$5,000) to graduate medical, dental, health policy, pharmacy, and public health school students and BA and above nursing students. In addition, the program will cover the travel of the new scholars’ parents to the events.

The Southern Medical Association (SMA) and its Alliance (SMAA) are proud to offer the “Society of 1906 Medical Student Scholarship” and the “Society of 1924 Medical Student Scholarship” for 2018. Each will provide financial assistance in the form of a $2,000 scholarship for tuition or other required expenses to a 3rd year medical student in need of financial aid who exhibits both academic and leadership qualities.
